Important information to take note of before applying

(a)   Submitting your completed application form and meeting the minimum admission requirements does not necessarily mean that you will be accepted as a student for the programme(s) you apply for. All programmes only allow a limited number of students. We will, however, consider all applications and you will be informed of the result. The selection processes of the various faculties are availablehere.
(b)   Take note of the following closing dates:
  • 31 May: Programmes in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Do have a look at our10 step guide to applying
Take note: Deadline date for Allied Health Sciences (B of Occupational Therapy, B of Speech-Language and Hearing Therapy, BSc in Dietetics and BSc in Physiotherapy) applications has been extended to 30 June 2013Applicants are reminded to write the NBTs no later 06 July 2013.
  • 30 June: All programmes in Law; BA (Visual Arts); BA (Drama); BA (Music); BMus; BEd (Gen Ed); BA (Sport Science) and BSc (Sport Science)
  • 30 June: Residence application
  • 30 June: Applications for all other programmes, with late applications until 30 September. Please note that late applications will only be considered if space is still available in the particular programme
(c)   Certain programmes (such as BA, BSc, BComm or BEng) consist of various fields of study. For example: within the BA programme you can choose between different fields of study, such as BA (Social Dynamics), BA (Law) or BA (Language and Culture). You have to indicate the programme as well as the particular field of study. If you do not indicate both the programme and the field of study then your application will be incomplete. You will only be considered for one particular field of study. If you later decide that you would rather pursue another field of study, you have until 30 September to ask to change to another field of study within the same programme, on condition that you meet the requirements of the new field of study. Depending on the field of study, you might be subject to selection again. Inform us of the change as stipulated at (d) below.
(d)   If you later decide that you would rather study another programme entirely, you have until 30 September to ask to change to another programme, on condition that you meet the requirements of the new programme. You will be subject to selection again. You must let us know in writing that you want to change your application. E-mail or fax your letter to the Admissions Section (seb@sun.ac.zaor info@sun.ac.za; fax no.: 021 808 3822).
(e)   The following programmes are subject to extensive selection processes:
  • All programmes in the Faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences and Engineering
  • All programmes in Law
  • BA (Visual Arts)
  • BA (Drama)
  • BA (Music)
  • BMus
  • BA (Sport Science) and BSc (Sport Science)
  • BEd (Gen Ed)
If your first choice of study is one of the programmes listed above, you must indicate an alternative, second programme in the space provided in case you are not accepted for your first choice. If your first choice falls within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, you cannot indicate a second or third option from that Faculty. If you want to be considered for a programme in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, it must be indicated as your first choice.
Your second choice may also be one of the programmes listed above, but then you have to indicate a third choice. Your third choice must be a programme that is not listed above. Do not list the same programme twice. Please note that your third choice might not be considered and that you may not be admitted to Stellenbosch University at all. Early admission into your second or third choice will not affect your chances to be selected for your first choice.
(f)    If you apply for a programme in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences or for a programme in Law, you must write the National Benchmark Test (NBT) before the end of June, as the achievement in the NBT is used in the selection process. For all other programmes you must write the NBT before you may register as a student at Stellenbosch University. We may use the results for placement in an extended degree programme. You can make a booking to write the test and get more information at www.nbt.ac.za or by phoning 021 650 3523. Further information will be sent to you once we have received your application form.
(g)   If you are selected for your chosen programme and conditionally accepted as a prospective student, you have to meet all the necessary admission requirements of your chosen programme before you can register as a student.
