Punjab University strive to flourish BS (Hons) programme of affiliated colleges

LAHORE: Addressing the miserable condition of BS (Honours) program results of six affiliated colleges with the Punjab University (PU), the  has taken into consideration various options to make 4 Year Programme viable in future in view of-issuance of certificate equivalent to (B.A.) to students after of 4 semesters, agreed and unanimous question-paper contents between the varsity and teachers, and to strongly demand the Punjab government to fulfill its  made earlier while starting program in autonomous colleges.
The issue was thoroughly discussed in a meeting held in Punjab University between the representatives of affiliated colleges including Govt. Queen Mary College, Lahore, Govt. Islamia College, Civil Lines, Govt. College of Science, Wahdat Road, Govt. M.A.O. College, Lahore, Govt. College, Gujranwala and Govt. College for Women, Satellite Town, Gujranwala. Chairman BS 4 Years Coordination Committee Punjab university Shahid Kamal represented his varsity in the meeting along with other officials on last Monday.
The meeting was held owing to continuous decline in BS (Hons) results which had caused huge increase in students dropouts in the all affiliated colleges. Following the miserable results in the 4 year program colleges decided that they would have to raise their concerns to authorities in PU and also to forward some pragmatic suggestions in order to make this program viable.
Documents available with The Frontier Post revealed that 1854 students failed out of total 5246 students studying in the 4 years program. Further the students failing per cent age remained very high in the recently held examinations in the BS (Hons) program  1st and 3rd. In Govt. College Gujranwala almost 75 per cent students failed, Govt. College for Women, Satellite Town Gujranwala 23 per cent, Govt. Queen MarryCollege Lahore 18 per cent, Govt. College of Science, Wahdat Road 43 per cent, Government IslamiaCollege, Civil Lines 58 per cent, and Govt. M.A.O. College, Lahore 61 per cent students failed in the 1stsemester . In 3rd semester result, 40 per cent students failed in Govt. College Gujranwala, 20 per cent in Govt. College of Science, Whadat Road, 31 per cent in Govt. Islamia College Civil Lines, Lahore, and 29 per cent students failed in Govt. M.A.O. College Lahore.
It is pertinent to mention here that BS (Hons) program was initiated around two years ago. Differences among between colleges and the varsity also started the same time about preparation of question papers and academic year. Apart, form theses issues, untrained teachers who never worked in semester system also remained a draw back for the viability of program while lack of infrastructure had done the major damage and ruined the future of hundreds of students who left the program or presently studying students who were still facing uncertainty regarding future of program.
Controller Examination Punjab University Dr. Liaqat Ali said that varsity also apprehended the situation after poor results in the 4 year program. He said various portions about the , examination conduct, preparation and building infrastructure in colleges explored in the meeting with college representatives. Participants of both varsity and colleges agreed to make this program viable-in these regard suggestions by colleges were appreciated.
He said the university will not compromise the  at any cost rather will work together for improving situation in coordination with teachers in colleges.
He said  Department had totally neglected the 4 year program which was resulting in failure of program.
