Exam delay puts BS (Hons) programme in doldrums Punjab University (PU)

As many as six public sector colleges affiliated with the Punjab University (PU) for 4-year BS (Hons) programme are once again in a fix as the  has failed to for 2nd and 4th semesters.

has been causing great unrest among the students and it is feared the same could also lead to a situation as witnessed in the past vis-à-vis delay by PU in conduct of exams and results etc.

Out of these six colleges, the four are situated within the provincial metropolis, including Govt MAO College, Govt Islamia College, Civil Lines, Govt College of Science, Wahdat Road and Queen Mary College. Two such colleges are from Gujranwala, which include Govt College for Boys and Govt College for Women, Satellite Town.

According to sources, PU officials overseeing BS (Hons) programme at the affiliated colleges had given an assurance in a meeting held on October 1st that the exams of 2nd and 4th semesters would commence from October 15. However, later when  were issued, October 15 was mentioned as ‘tentative’ date for the commencement of the exams.

It is learnt principals and representatives of colleges had later objected over “tentative” date but to no avail.

A principal of an affiliated college, seeking anonymity, said it was unfortunate that the PU examinationdepartment was oblivious to threat attached to delay as many violent protests by students had been witnessed vis-à-vis exams and result issues in the recent past. He said the students and their parents were worried and were constantly asking about  schedule but, since PU exam department did not share any information even with the heads of the colleges, they were unable to pacify the students.

Another principal said the BS (Hons) programme was especially launched on directions of Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif a couple of years ago but, ever since its launch, the Punjab University had been displaying an indifferent attitude as exposed from many exam-related issues emerged afterwards.
