As part of the school affiliation process with its Middle School Assessment Framework (MSAF)
for Grades VI-VIII, AKU-EB conducted Orientation Workshops at five
recently Affiliated Schools in Gilgit, Gahkuch and Hunza during the
month of July. The orientation sessions included detailed introduction
of two critical components of MSAF: Project Portfolio and Progress Test.
“The parents trust AKU-EB ... we hope that MSAF from AKU-EB will enrich learning experience of our students and will be helpful in implanting various skills for which our own system lacks (the resources),” said Mr Darvesh Ali, Principal, Dawn Public School, Hunza.
The one to two hour orientation sessions familiarized the middle school teachers with the procedures and philosophies of project-based learning and portfolio assessment, and how they can progressively convey the appropriate concepts and ideas from MSAF curriculum through the three years of Middle School leading toward Secondary education.
Project Portfolio and Progress Test within MSAF aim to lay a broad-based foundation of experimental, analytical and critical thinking skills among young adolescents and help them prepare for a more challenging learning experience in the secondary school level and higher. A series of Project Tasks help accomplish this goal by engaging students in a wider range of activities that:
Held at Mountain School, Gilgit; Leadership School, Gahkuch-Ghizr; Dawn Public School and Sedna School in Hunza; and Sedna School, Gilgit; the orientation sessions were conducted by Ms Raana Jillani, Assistant Manager, Middle School Assessment Framework, and co-facilitated by Adil Karim, Sr School Support and Development Officer based in Gilgit-Baltistan.

- foster important life skills
- enhance the intellectual development
- harness the power of cooperative peer group learning
- encourage students to think outside the box when learning a specific concept of a subject so the gap between national and international certification may be reduced
