Being a pioneer in establishing
process-oriented and research-led assessment practices in Pakistan,
AKU-EB was recently commissioned by Pakistan Teacher Training Project
(PTTP) on behalf of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan to oversee
the development of a three credit course on examination and
measurements. The course will be taught in the final year of the new
Honours Bachelors of Education Programme already implemented in 19
universities in Pakistan.
AKU-EB was chosen to provide a blend of its exemplary assessment practices with research-based theories related to testing and evaluation.
“Participating faculty were eager to learn about recent advances in psychometric theory. Our aim was to develop a course to equip prospective teachers – those coming with no experience at all – with a foundation to implement effective testing and evaluation techniques in their classrooms. With that in mind, we refined three versions of the course, each with a different bit of theory and all of them with a practical intent,” remarked Dr Christie while discussing the project.
Funded by USAID, the project was aimed toward conceiving a course that could equip the prospective teachers with effective assessment practices at elementary school level. During the six-month consultancy period, AKU-EB provided supervision to a team of 15 faculty members from across Pakistan facilitating four course-writing workshops and off-line reviews of syllabuses and teaching notes.
