Microsoft updates Windows 8 – Say aloha to Windows 8.1!

For most people, what ends up distracting you from important things in life (yeah. That assignment. That application) is a good movie/book/article.. Amidst this entire hullabaloo about updates, let’s get to the latest Windows 8 update. So the last thing that killed my productivity was the headline – “Download the update for Windows 8.1 now!”

Microsoft shunned the previously existing start menu and moved on to the idea of a smart screen with Window 8. Users cribbed. Missed the start button (and menu) but then got used to it. Last week, they brought a free update to the OS and voila – the start button was back. Obviously, they didn’t just update it for the start button. With that came flexible split screens, new applications and again ‘updates’ for the old ones and all that with a better speed. Earlier, the size of the split screen was fixed with a limit of two windows.

Now you can take this up to four, depending on your monitor’s resolution. Favourites are those tid bits of applications that have come out – Calculator, Reading list, Alarms, Sound Recorder, Bing Health and Fitness and Bing Food and Drink. A few of the missing bits certainly are now in place.
There are updates and then there are crappy updates. This one however, does not come in the disappointing category. For its worth, the OS is better now. Not good enough, but certainly better.
