State Adjusts UT Admissions Policy to 'Top 7 Percent'

Beginning with the Class of 2014, the University of Texas at Austin will adjust its admissions standards to automatically admit all eligible freshman applicants who rank within the top 7 percent of their high school graduating classes.
The new policy adjusted what has been a top-ten-percent rule. The 81st Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 175 allowing the UT-Austin to limit its automatic admission to 75 percent of the university's enrollment capacity designated for first-time resident undergraduate students.
The university had determined that admitting students in the top 7 percent of high school graduating classes will fill 75 percent of available spaces with remaining spaces being filled through holistic review.
