KARACHI - Investigation to identify the causes of detestable academic results of public colleges and the higher secondary schools of the metropolis in Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) Part-11 annual examination 2012, led to the conclusion that under qualified teaching staff of the humanities group was the cause of most of the students failing in the examinations.
All students of atleast 10 government colleges and higher secondary schools failed in the annual examination. Similarly there are 13 other public institutions from
which only one student graduated each. The above mentioned colleges do not have proper teaching staff and laboratory facilities for the students of humanities group in their respective institutions. Seven of the ten colleges from which no student could clear the exam were operating in the public sector. Of the 13 colleges from which only one student managed to pass per batch, five were public sector and eight were private sector entities. The college from where no student passed were; Govt. Degree Boys College Baldia Town, Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School No 02 Korangi K Area, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Government Boys Degree College, Allama Iqbal Government Boys College Star Gate, Government Degree Boys College Shams Peer Baba Bith, Allama Iqbal Government Boys Higher Secondary School Soharb Goth, Govt. Degree Girls College Gulistan-e-Jauhar were the government colleges and higher secondary schools that have produced zero percent results. While VMT College for Girls, Jauhar Degree College Science, Commerce and Arts and Saeeda Academy Higher Secondary School were private colleges and higher secondary school. The colleges from where only one student passed per batch are; Govt. Degree Boys College Quaidabad, Govt. City College (Evening), Federal Government Boys Inter College, NJV Government Girls Higher Secondary School (Sindhi Medium) and Quaid-e-Millat Government (Evening) are those public colleges and higher secondary schools in which only one candidate can pass the exam. While Al-Noor Degree College Block 18 F B Area, DA Degree College for Men Phase-VI, Fatima Zehra Girls Higher Secondary School, Abdul Sattar Gata Memorial Intermediate College, Shahzaib College North Karachi, Clifton College for Women, Iqra Intermediate College, Jauhar Degree College (Evening) and Askary Inter College Gulshan-e-Hadeed. Talking to Pakistan Today, Sindh Director General (DG) Colleges Prof Nasir Ansar said that shortage of teaching staff and laboratory facilities in government colleges and higher secondary schools for humanities group was the reason behind bad performance in HSSC Part-II annual examination 2012. He said that “we have limited enrolment in public colleges and higher secondary schools and the number of registration is declining with each passing year and it is impossible to hire manpower for a few students. This year we have only 770 students in government-run colleges, and in some colleges we have two and in others we have a maximum of five students.
